What is this website?

The unprecedented national lockdown aimed at flattening the Covid infection curve, made us aware of one thing: there are millions of people in our cities whose reserves are barely days away from starvation. This website began as an attempt to proactively map both hunger and the social infrastructure to mitigate hunger in Hyderabad.

Why maps?

Maps give us locations and routes and allow us to tell stories. Where are the hungry people? How do we reach them? If the maps on this website allow the users to locate themselves and give them routes to reach others, then they have served their purpose.

How to use?

Maps: When you enter the website, you are prompted to share your location. Please allow your mobile or laptop to share its location. This should open the map centered on your current location. You can always change the location by moving the marker to center on other location. You will see a drop down menu in which you can choose what you want to see.
Lists: Alternatively, you can click on "Lists" tab and see a list of lists. These lists are arranged to show you the most relevant information for the location you have chosen.

Conceptualized by Dr. Anant Maringanti.
Ravi Kawre - Painstakingly cleaned dozens of spreadsheets with thousands of data points and geocoded them.
Sridhar Potlachervoo - Literally hand-rolled the website, built the map list functionality and put with up with unreasonable demands at all hours.
Kabeer Arora, Indivar Jonnalagadda and Harsha Devulapalli rolled out the functionality and user interface in each version.
Bhaswati Sengupta - Kept the entire enterprise going from start to finish.

About HUL

Hyderabad Urban Lab (HUL) Foundation is an interdisciplinary research and action initiative based in Hyderabad. Founded in 2012, by a group of academics and development professionals, HUL has been conducting urban research and community engagement activities on a range of themes related to life in the "Urban". The idea is to produce enabling knowledges about the city that lead to a reasonable understanding of the issues and challenges inherent in urban coexistence.

We do this through pure research, pedagogic programme, engagements with communities and mixed groups of people, collaborations with other organisations and frequent unticketed unsponsored public events in the city.

Our work, once it gains some shape, is available to those who help us to produce it and to those who wish to use the work for non-commercial purposes.
